Congratulations on a remarkable career

Posted on December 22nd, 2022 by WLF

As 2022 draws to a close we are celebrating the remarkable and inspiring career of Danny McCarthy, who is retiring from the Partnership at the end of December after almost forty years with WLF Accounting & Advisory.

Danny commenced his career in Launceston but was soon headhunted by (then) Wise Lord and Ferguson Partners Peter Beven and Ottley Groom. He joined the firm in 1983, when our offices were located in the Reserve Bank Building. Six years later, on 1 July 1989, Danny was appointed to the Partnership.

WLF Partner Joanne Doyle spoke of Danny’s achievements in leading the firm over his time,

“Danny has been instrumental in the firm’s growth and development over the past 30 to 40 years” says Joanne.

“When he joined WLF we had a team of approximately 30 staff. Today, that number has almost tripled.

“Together with (former Partner) Harvey Gibson, Danny established our internal audit services, where we continue to see consistent significant growth in both demand and scope of work.”

Throughout his career Danny has worked with a broad spectrum of clients. He has held the role of Lead Partner in auditing, advising, and guiding some of Tasmania’s largest organisations through complex structural changes. For many years he was also the Tasmanian Representative on the Chartered Accountants Australian and New Zealand IT chapter, championing our industry to adapt to new and emerging technology developments and opportunities.

In addition to maintaining a full client load, Danny also served on the firm executive for many years and was heavily involved in the day to day running of the business.

“Danny is an intellect” Joanne says.

“He has the ability to easily grasp the most complex situations, remember facts and figures and also communicate that knowledge clearly with his team. His expertise has helped the Audit, Assurance and Advisory (AAA) division become recognised as a leader across Tasmania.”

Although Danny is retiring from the Partnership, we will continue to have the benefit of his expertise as he will be working on a number of projects with our AAA division on a consultancy basis.

On behalf of the Partners and entire WLF team, we congratulate you on your retirement from the Partnership Danny, and thank you for the many years of support and guidance you have shown to so many of us throughout our careers.
