Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch turns 40
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch, and our team at WLF are delighted to be making a contribution through our Friday Fundraising Program.
Every year on 25 December, the staff from Colony 47 are joined by many volunteers to provide a traditional lunch, companionship and the spirit of Christmas. Santa Claus makes a visit with gifts for all the children, and people of all ages and backgrounds enjoy a celebration in a safe and friendly environment.
The WLF Friday Fundraising Program, which is funded through staff workplace giving donations, is very proud to support the lunch this year, and we are particularly pleased to know that our donation is earmarked for purchasing the turkeys!
WLF Partner Marg Marshall caught up with Katie Reynolds, Colony 47 Marketing and Communications Partner, to hand over the $1000 cheque and thank Katie for all the wonderful work that the organisation does to support Tasmanians.
“We’ve been working with Colony 47 for many years, and are very familiar with the amazing programs that are run right around southern Tasmania” says Marg.
“Celebrating 40 years of the Community Christmas Lunch is a great achievement. Having previously volunteered at the lunch I know there is so much work that goes into an event of this size. I also know just how important the lunch is to the many people that attend and celebrate the day with great company and delicious food.”
“We are proud to be able to make a contribution, and particularly when the funds have been raised by all our staff at WLF.”
Katie said that the long-term success of the lunch can be attributed to the generosity of the local community.
“Donations such as this from WLF, as well as individuals and businesses who contribute goods and gifts or volunteer their time, are what makes the Community Christmas Lunch happen each year.”
“Christmas can be a challenging time for many people, particular those who are on their own or who find themselves struggling financially” says Katie.
“It’s so important to our team at Colony 47 that we provide a few hours on Christmas Day where people can come together to enjoy some friendly, supportive company and a traditional Christmas lunch.”
“Seeing the smiling faces when Santa Claus arrives is a magical moment – and those smiles are not just the children either. It really is a special event, and such a joy to be a part of.”
For anyone that would like to make a contribution to the Community Christmas Lunch, there is still time, and a few options to choose from, visit Christmas Lunch | Colony 47
Financial donations can be made online, or if you would like to volunteer on the day there are still some spots on the list for table hosts.
Additionally, if you or someone you know would like to attend the lunch there are limited spaces still available and these can be booked online.
Happy 40th Anniversary Colony 47! And thank you for all the wonderful support you provide to the people in Tasmania.
