  • Save the date – 2023 Assurance & Financial Reporting Update

    Our Audit, Assurance and Advisory team are in the process of finalising the program for our 2023 Assurance and Financial Reporting Update (AFRU), and it is shaping up to be a great afternoon of information and expert commentary.

    In addition to the overview on changes within the financial reporting landscape, the program will feature  panel discussions that incorporate topical issues including ESG reporting, artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security and information management.   • Changes to the way you claim working from home tax deductions

    In mid-February, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) announced that there would be a change to the method of calculating work from home deductions for individuals.

    Prior to July 2022, taxpayers who were working from home could use one of three methods for claiming:

    A Fixed Rate Method, which was set at 52 cents per hour from July 2018 to July 2022, to cover home office expenses such power usage and cleaning costs. This did NOT include deductions for stationery, phone or internet expenses.

  • Introducing our new Graduate and Undergraduate Accountants

    We were delighted to welcome our newest WLF team members in mid-February. There were plenty of eager new faces in the office with an intake of 7 Graduate Accountants and 3 Undergraduate Accountants.

    Abina Subedi, Hanzalah Haroon, James Ackerley, Jovita Susanto and Portia Davie have all joined our Audit, Assurance and Advisory division.

    The newest additions to the Business and Personal Advisory division are Rebecca Chen, Rishini Dias, Oscar Neale, Leah Johnston and Flynn Black.

  • Congratulations on a remarkable career

    As 2022 draws to a close we are celebrating the remarkable and inspiring career of Danny McCarthy, who is retiring from the Partnership at the end of December after almost forty years with WLF Accounting & Advisory.
    Danny commenced his career in Launceston but was soon headhunted by (then) Wise Lord and Ferguson Partners Peter Beven and Ottley Groom. He joined the firm in 1983, when our offices were located in the Reserve Bank Building. Six years later, on 1 July 1989, Danny was appointed to the Partnership.

    The WLF Accounting & Advisory office will be closed for the Christmas and New Year period from 12 noon on Friday 23 December 2022.

    We will re-open at 8.45am on Tuesday 3 January 2023.

  • Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch turns 40

    This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch, and our team at WLF are delighted to be making a contribution through our Friday Fundraising Program.   
    Every year on 25 December, the staff from Colony 47 are joined by many volunteers to provide a traditional lunch, companionship and the spirit of Christmas. Santa Claus makes a visit with gifts for all the children, and people of all ages and backgrounds enjoy a celebration in a safe and friendly environment.

  • Employer SGC and the ATO

    With the removal of the $450 monthly wage threshold and increase in the Superannuation Guarantee Charge (SGC) rate to 10.5% of wages for super guarantee payments (referred to in our recent newsletter) it is a good time to remind everyone of the penalties that can be incurred for not paying employee super on time.
    Superannuation is required to be paid 28 days after the end of each quarter (see below).
